BJP candidate from Sri Anandpur Sahib Constituency, Dr. Subhash Sharma, today exposed the “fake” pro-farmer image projected by the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab. Addressing a series of election meetings here, Dr. Sharma said that Mann had only exploited the sentiments of the farming community by making ‘false promises’ before coming to power and had deliberately ‘instigated’ the farmers against Modi, in order to grab power in the State.
Taking up an extremely crucial issue pertaining to the agriculture sector, Dr. Sharma said, “Mann had made a pre-poll promise of providing the farmers with minimum support price (MSP) for 22 crops, which he conveniently forgot after coming to power. It has been two years since Mann is at the helm of affairs in Punjab, but has not provided the farmers MSP on any crop, which is nothing but a ‘betrayal’ with them.”
Sharpening his attack on the AAP government, Dr. Sharma said that the Mann government has only and only exploited the farmers and made a cruel joke with them on the issue of the MSP but now the AAP government stands fully exposed. Further holding the Mann government squarely responsible for doing nothing for the farmers, Dr. Sharma, said that at the time of the massive crop damage due to the flood fury in the state last year, the AAP government had promised to give a compensation of Rs 20,000 per acre but the affected farmers received just Rs 6,800 per acre, which too, was allocated by the Centre from the disaster relief fund.
Dr. Sharma pointed out that while on the one hand, the Mann government has cheated the Punjab farmers, on the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done a lot for the farming community.
Listing some of the exceptional works done by the Modi government for the farmers, he said, “The Union government is providing annual financial assistance of Rs 6,000 under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana to the farmers. The Union Government has also empowered the farmers through a variety of measures including soil health card, micro-irrigation, crop insurance, seed supply, urea availability and direct financial assistance under PM Kisan Samman Yojana. Besides, the government has ensured an unprecedented increase in MSP for major crops.”
Asserting that the Modi government is committed to supporting farmer families and empowering them to lead better lives, Dr. Sharma said that under the Modi regime KVKs were upgraded to provide digital solutions to the farmers, while adding, “The government also established PM Kisan Samriddhi Kendras to provide all agricultural inputs and services as one-stop shops to our farmers.” Dr. Sharma further pointed out Modi government is committed to making agriculture remunerative while assuring the farmers that under the steward leadership of PM Modi, the farmers of Punjab will benefit immensely.
BJP candidate Dr. Subhash Sharma attended a series of election meetings in Chamkaur Sahib and Morinda today. He also paid obeisance at Gurdwara Sahib Baba Ajit Singh & Shiv Mandir Dera Baba Zalamgiri and prayed for the welfare of Punjab.
