The police department should work strictly to prevent drugs and stop the drug trade. These words were expressed by Deputy Commissioner Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa while presiding over the meeting held regarding Narco Coordination Center (NCORD) at District Administrative Complex Nawanshahr. He said that orders have been given by the Chief Minister of Punjab that drugs should be completely eradicated from Punjab, this meeting was organized to inform the concerned departments about the instructions received from him. In this meeting SDM Nawanshahr Akshita Gupta, SDM Banga Vikramjit Singh Panthe, Good Governance Fellow Ashmita, DSP Gurbinder Singh, Dr. Harpreet Singh, Dr. Rajan Shastri, Forest Department Officer Harbhajan Singh, Agriculture Officer Naresh Kataria, District Social Security Officer Rajkiran Kaur .
The Deputy Commissioner said that the February 2021 Joint Action Plan “Ek Yudh Nasha ke Kathane” was prepared by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights New Delhi and Narcotics Control Bureau jointly to prevent drug abuse among children and all states will come under it. The districts were instructed to implement the above Joint Action Plan and draw up related activities. Under which maximum activities have been drawn up to prevent and abuse of drugs among children in District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, due to which District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr) has been declared the best performing district.
The Deputy Commissioner said that after today’s meeting, the relevant departments will work in full action mode and the drug addiction will be eradicated by speaking out against drugs in the district. He said that SDMs from village sarpanches, number dars, Asha workers will get complete information about drug sellers in the villages in a secret manner and will share this information in coordination with the police department. As soon as the information is received, strict action will be taken against the drug smugglers by the police department and other related departments. He said that the properties of the drug dealers caught by the Punjab government have also been confiscated. He said that drug dealers will not be spared at any cost. The police department with the support of the relevant departments will soon start a movement in the district to eliminate the supply of drugs and take strict legal action against the drug sellers, and register a leaflet. He said that in order to protect the young generation from drugs, awareness camps will be organized in the district so that every youth can be aware of the far-reaching effects of drugs. He appealed to the youth to cooperate with the district administration to eradicate drugs from Punjab.
15 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act and 18 accused have been arrested during the last month of May by the police department to prevent drug trafficking. 184 grams of heroin, 900 grams of Dode chura post, 85 injections and drug money worth Rs. 3 lakh 25 thousand 900 have been recovered. A total of 31 seminars have been conducted regarding the prevention of drugs, out of which 19 seminars were conducted in various schools and colleges and 12 seminars were conducted at taxi stands, Tempo Union Truck, Union Grand etc. Resolutions have been found by the police department by declaring 35 villages drug free and action is being taken with the help of the villagers in the drug hot support villages.
The Deputy Commissioner said that NCORD helpline number 9988303232 has been issued by the district administration. Citizens, organizations can call on this helpline number for information, complaints and help regarding suspected drug suppliers. Information provided by any citizen/organization regarding suspected drug supplier will be honored.
The health department is running 13 Ott centers in the district, these centers are treating drug addicts and 5 de-addiction centers are also being run by the health department. The Deputy Commissioner said that the District Social Security Department with the support of the concerned departments will launch a campaign to create awareness about the ill effects of drugs through various activities under the Drug Free Bharat Abhiyaan in the district.
